BC Coalition of People with Disabilities

Community Inclusion Initiative a national community development initiative funded by the Government of Canadavia its Social Development Partnership Program (SDPP). It allows BCACL, CACL, People First of Canada and provincial and territorial associations across the country to do vital work that promotes the inclusion, full participation and citizenship of Canadians with intellectual disabilities and their families.

Community Living Research Project - University of British Columbia - based in the School of Social Work and the University of British Columbia. In the fall of 2005, the Community Living Research Project began exploring Community Living supports and services for adults.

Diverse City Press - produces and distributes inspiring and informational books, audio CD's and video tapes, dealing with persons with developmental disabilities, and a range of social issues.

Diversity World - The website of Denise Bissonnette, an expert on issues of career development, diversity and employment and training for people with employment barriers.

Equipment and Assistive Technology Initiative (EATI) - If you're a person with a disability who has employment-related goals (or volunteer goals leading to employment), please visit the EATI website to learn more and to see if you are eligible for the project. This is a project offered through the BC Personal Supports Network.

People in Motion - a non-profit disability group based in Kamloops.

BC Ministry of Advanced Education and Labour Market Development

STEPS Forward Inclusive Post Secondary Education Society - The mandate of STEPS Forward is to transform post-secondary education in B.C. by modelling inclusion for students with intellectual disabilities, starting at UBC (STEPS-Campus) and eventually expanding to other colleges and universities throughout the lower mainland and the rest of the province.

AccessWORKS - a broad group of disability organizations and service providers dedicated to advancing the economic inclusion of persons with disabilities in British Columbia.

Association of Service Providers for Employability and Career Training (ASPECT) - an association of community-based trainers that represents and promotes the interests and activities of members to strengthen their capacity to provide services to people with barriers to employment.

BC Employnet - a network of people providing employment support services to people with developmental disabilities in BC.The website has current events, resources and other information.

Institute for Community Inclusion is an online resource out of the University of Massachusetts in Boston. It provides a thorough collection of research, online training, and access to articles related to employment for people with disabilities.

ORW - Opportunities through Rehabilitation and Work - is a non-profit, independently funded resource base, serving organizations, business and government involved in the employment of persons with disabilities in British Columbia.

The Provincial Networking Group Inc. - Professional support, training and employment services.

The Training Resource Network is a one-stop shop for books and booklets, worksheets and practical tools to increase the capacity of organizations to deliver quality employment services.

WorkSupport.com provides information, research and resources about work and disability issues. VCU is home to Dr. Paul Wehman, the founder of the supported employment model in the United States.

Mental Health and Addiction Services:

F.O.R.C.E Society for Kids' Mental Health - Provides support, education, advocacy and navigation for families and professionals to help address the mental health needs of children and youth.

Provincial Assessment Centre - provides multi-disciplinary mental health services for referred individuals ages 14 and up with a developmental disability and a concurrent mental illness, or behaviour issue. It is part of Community Living BC (CLBC).

Research

The Centre for Inclusion and Citizenship's Community Living Research Project is based in the School of Social Work and the University of British Columbia. It explores Community Living supports and services for adults (19+) with developmental disabilities.

Social Planning and Research Council (SPARC) is a non-profit organization that conducts research and advocacy on social issues, and delivers community development education and consulting services to communities.
