Our Priority Areas

In 2006, the BCACL board of directors identified five priority areas that would guide the work of BCACL. Through a variety of projects and initiatives, we are working to achieve our vision, inspiring a world where everyone belongs. Click on the headings below to learn more about our five priority areas.

For more information on BCACL's individual advocacy work, contact BCACL's Executive Director Faith Bodnar.

While BCACL has identified priority areas, our provincial advocacy work addresses a broad range of issues. Our work is based on policy developed by people with developmental disabilities, family members, advocates and service providers involved in our provincial federation.

Supports to Children and Families

Vision for 2015: Supporting children and families is an integral part of our community culture. Supports are well funded, readily accessible, personalized andanchored in policy and practice.

Inclusive Education

Vision for 2015: An inclusive education culture celebrates and embraces uniqueness, has appropriate supports and resources, and provides equitable access to lifelong learning.

Employment

Vision for 2015: Every person with a developmental disability who wants a job has a job.

Disability Supports

Vision for 2015: Everyone has supports for daily living and enjoys full social participation in inclusive and accessible communities.

Income Security

Vision for 2015: No person with a developmental disability lives in poverty.
