Call for workshop proposals - BCACL 2012 Conference

Summary: 
BCACL will host its 2012 conference, "Moving Forward: Steadfast and Strong" in Penticton, British Columbia on May 30-June 2, 2012. We are now accepting workshop proposals. The deadline for proposals is January 20, 2012.

We are excited to co-host our 2012 conference with the Penticton and District Community Resources Society and the Penticton and District Society for Community Living.

If you would like to propose a presentation but are concerned you will be unable to submit the proposal prior to the January 20 deadline, please contact Charlotte Kates at ckates@bcacl.org.

The conference will take place at the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre, a full service convention centre with spacious rooms to accommodate over 500 participants and seven simultaneous workshops.

Our workshops will include the following themes and topics:

  • Self Advocacy, workshops and presentations by and/or for self advocates, including wellness, sexuality, employment and self employment, art and self advocate initiatives
  • Advocacy and Media, including communications, public advocacy, social media, and movement-building
  • Employment, including best practices, transitions, unemployment and finding work
  • Families, including inclusive education, inclusive child care, family support, transitions, family leadership and children and youth
  • Community Development and Inclusion, including social enterprise, housing innovations, supported decision making and addressing poverty
  • Organizational Development, including senior staff development, board workshops and resource development

We encourage the submission of workshop proposals that address diverse communities, communities of colour and indigenous, Native and First Nations communities. We strongly encourage innovative, leading-edge proposal and topics.
