BCACL meeting with Minister of Social Development Harry Bloy
BCACL representatives expressed the need for the provincial government to make an immediate financial investment in CLBC, to stop using Service Redesign as a cost-cutting tool and to commit to sustainable future funding.
We acknowledged the need to review services but stressed that CLBC must have the capacity to do this well and for the right reasons. Capacity does not currently exist and Service Redesign has been very inconsistent and problematic, lacking transparency and consultation.
Board members Leila Rahemtulla, Annette Delaplace and Sky Hendsbee used personal stories to show the impact that service redesign is having on the lives of families and individuals and the importance of being involved in decisions that affect their lives.
Families and individuals have the right to a full range of options in the supports and services they receive and the right to be involved and honoured in decision making.
