The BC Association for Community Living board is comprised of up to 13 directors. Ten are elected by voting members at an Annual General Meeting in June. Of those ten, four must represent each of the four regions of the province, and two must be people with developmental disabilities. One additional member is appointed by the Self Advocacy Caucus. There are no requirements for how many family members sit on the board. However, family members play an active role in the organization and generally make up a majority of the board.
The board complement includes:
1 President: elected for 1-year term at AGM
9 directors (minimum 2 self advocates): elected for 3-year term at AGM
1 director appointed by the Self Advocacy Caucus: 1-year term
1 member appointed by the Board: 1-year term
1 Past President: 1-year term
Directors are elected for a three-year term, with staggered terms to ensure continuity on the board. Once elected, board members appoint a Vice-President and Treasurer. The maximum number of consecutive years a board director may serve is six.
